In 2003, Jeff Bowman and his wife Judy became enthralled with the hot springs industry. They decided to purchase a neglected spa hotel that had been built in 1960, and their involvement in the local Desert Hot Springs community has only continued to grow.
In less than three years, the Bowmans acquired a run-down business and flipped it into a high-end spa with international recognition. Ever since, they have been making a name for themselves in the spa niche and building a lasting reputation.
Living Waters, which is a clothing-optional geothermal spa, has topped travel bucket lists and won numerous accolades. They’ve been featured on the Tennis Channel, on Ellen, in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and USA Today. Living Waters has been featured on the world-wide top ten clothing-optional resorts list, according to TripAdvisor.com.
In addition to day-use soaking, Living Waters also offers on-site accommodations and massage and spa treatments, a dry sauna, breakfast and afternoon hors d’oeuvres. The two pools are fed directly from a mineral hot-water aquifer, pumping 20 gallons a minute, 18 hours a day, from its own well.
Visitors have traveled from far and wide to experience the European-style vacation that Living Waters offers guests. “They come for three main reasons,” Bowman said, upon winning the “Business Persons of the Year” designation. “First is our unique clothing optional experience; second, our pure, hot, natural mineral water; and third, our massage—we are one of the rare places in the Palm Springs area that offers a couple’s massage, done by a couple.”
Since purchasing Living Waters, Bowman has made waves as a business owner and community member—serving nine years on the Mission Springs Water District board of directors, formerly acting as president of the Desert Hot Springs Historical Society and recipient of the “Business Persons of the Year” by the Desert Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce.
At the Hot Springs Connection, Bowman will speak to his knowledge and experience within the Desert Hot Springs community. He’ll provide a glimpse into the history of the area, as well as its geothermal roots.
