In nearly any given conversation with Steve Beckley, you’ll find out several things about him: he has a passion for caving, he’s a problem-solving engineer and he is an innovator. Beckley lives in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and owns Iron Mountain Hot Springs and Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park.
After Beckley earned his degree in petroleum engineering at Colorado School of Mines, he had a 12-year career in the oil business. From there, Beckley’s career took off in a different direction.
Beckley and his wife, Jeanne, have been in the tourism industry since 1999 when they reopened Glenwood Caverns. Though initially drawn to the property because of the Fairy Caves inside the mountain, the pair have grown the business into a dynamic destination known for its world-class thrill ride attractions—it’s the only mountain-top theme park in North America.
In 2015, the Beckleys brought another historic destination back to life as the internationally acclaimed Iron Mountain Hot Springs, joining forces with co-owner Mogli Cooper. As first-time hot springs owners, they were able to build a successful and award-winning tourist destination.
Iron Mountain Hot Springs has since earned wide recognition, joining Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park as yet another local top-tier attraction. It’s a 16-pool geothermal experience that overlooks the Colorado River. Some of the site’s accolades include Wellness Centre of the Year by Luxury Travel Guide, numerous Local’s Choice awards and Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association’s Business of the Year.
The Hot Springs Connection welcomes Beckley back for the second year in a row, as he and Cooper will discuss the rewards and challenges of building a commercial hot springs facility from scratch.
