Meet Dr. Jonathan De Vierville

For Dr. Jonathan Paul De Vierville, Ph.D., MSSW, LCSW, LPC, health and wellness has transcended into all areas of his career. Based in Texas, he’s an educator, business owner and author.

De Vierville is the director, founder and owner of The Alamo Plaza Spa at the historic Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. He received his spa training in Europe, studying as a Bath Master at the Kneipp School in Germany and in Karlsbad Czech Republic. He runs The Alamo in a similar style, basing its programs on the holistic herbal and water therapy developed by Sebastian Kneipp in the 1890s.

Additionally, De Vierville is a board member of the Balneology Association of North America (BANA) and a former board member of the American Massage Therapy Association Foundation and the International Spa Association Foundation. He’s the author behind A History of American Spas and Healing Waters.

In the academic world, Prof. De Vierville has years of extensive wellness-oriented experience. He’s a Professor Emeritus of the humanities, history and interdisciplinary studies at The Alamo Colleges: St. Philip’s College, as well as an analytical Jungian psychotherapist, licensed clinical social worker and professional counselor. He has taught American, western and world history, plus analytical, depth and archetypal psychology and psychotherapy at the graduate and post-graduate level.

De Vierville has spoken at several conferences and events, including World Congresses on Health Resort and Spa Therapies, The International Society of Medical Hydrology and Climatology, The Global Wellness Summit, The International Spa Association, The Green Spa Network and BANA. He also conducts an annual lecture titled “Spa Cultures, Dreams and Healing Waters” in European spa towns.

This year, De Vierville is returning to the Hot Springs Connection once again as a speaker.
