Meet Mark Begich, President and CEO of Northern Compass Group

Mark Begich wears many different hats, from former senator to current hot springs owner. Over the past 40 years, Begich has been a businessman, entrepreneur, CEO and leader of creative startups. He’s also gained experience in commercial and residential real estate, retail sales, travel and tourism, business consulting, mergers and acquisitions of public utilities and privately held companies, corporate restructuring, business turnarounds, vending and distribution, capital-raising, joint ventures and equity investing.

In addition to his expansive work in the private sector, Begich has also made an impact on his community through decades of public service. From 2003 to 2007 he was the mayor of Anchorage, Alaska, then from 2009 to 2014 he served in the United States Senate. Begich has also spent 10 years as an elected member of the Anchorage Assembly.

As a public servant, Begich has worked on a wide variety of projects. Some of his key issues related to telecommunications, Arctic policy, technology, the United States military, transportation, tribal affairs, fisheries, infrastructure, labor and workforce development, education, natural resource development, veterans’ affairs, housing, business development and economic growth.

When Begich is not running his own company as president and CEO of the Northern Compass Group, LLC—a full-service business consulting firm—and acting as an elected official, he also owns multiple hot springs. Begich owns two hot springs facilities: Carson Hot Springs in Carson City, Nevada and Jemez Hot Springs in Jemez Springs, New Mexico.

Begich will join the Hot Springs Connection this year as a speaker, presenting information on the newly formed Hot Springs Business and Trade Association.
